Why Choose Octotel Fibre?

Who is Octotel?
Octotel is Cape Town’s largest Open Access Network focused on both Fibre To The Home (FTTH) and Business (FTTB). Our aim is to provide seamless fibre connectivity to over 250 000 Cape Town homes and businesses. Octotel’s services are affordable and reliable. We offer a choice of services from over 50 of the country’s leading Internet Service Providers.

Fibre is the fastest and most stable technology for internet access. ADSL is an old technology that runs on copper infrastructure, it is severely limited in capacity and capability. Fibre on the other hand has a 20+ year life span, it is orders of magnitude faster than copper and provided by a new generation of telco operator. We bring fibre connectivity directly into every home using the same technology as in leading international broadband markets.

We offer an alternative to the current ageing and highly congested ADSL network. Octotel rolls out its fibre network in partnership with the community and local Internet Service Providers (ISPs) using an Open Access business model. We are an independent fibre provider that provides line rental services to ISPs on a fully vendor neutral basis.

Preferential Procurement

We have a proactive procurement approach at Octotel. Our internal policies support the objectives of Preferential Procurement and ensure that our supply chain includes as many empowered businesses as possible.
What is Octotel FTTH?
Fibre to the home (FTTH), replaces the tired old copper phone cable to your home with optical fibre capable of blazingly fast speeds. Your Internet connection can now experience a dramatic improvement. No more long delays while files, music or videos download. Not only that, but a whole new world of online services will become available to you.
What are the benefits of using Octotel Fibre?
Better Speed
Fibre is up to 250 times faster than today's basic DSL broadband. Upload speed is more or less the same as download speed, which is great for video conferencing via Skype and for remote working. Fibre future-proofs your home.

Improved Security
Rolling out a fibre network makes it possible for CCTV cameras to be placed throughout the community, which can play a significant role in improving the overall security in the areas they cover.

HD Entertainment Possible
Rapidly download or even live stream your favourite HD TV shows, movies, games and music via the Internet

Internet Telephony
VoIP (Voice over IP) can cut your phone costs by making calls (locally and internationally) from your home at a fraction of current costs, but with crystal clear quality.

Improved Mobile Phone Coverage
Mobile phone coverage (which can be very poor in some areas) can be improved with the installation of decentralised mini-antennas mounted on, for example, camera poles and traffic lights, they can be powered through the fibre network. This is a very viable means of addressing environmental and health concerns associated with large masts in residential areas.

Additional Services
Smart metering and home automation allows homeowners to upgrade to smart homes, with remote control of alarms, devices, lights, appliances, and remote measuring of water and electricity consumption.
How long will it take to get connected?
This will depend on the turnaround for your installation and activation. Once the line has been installed in your premises it can take up to 5 days for the provider to activate your line. As soon as your Fibre line is active, you can be connected to Interworks Fibre within 24 Hours.

Each provider has a different lead time for installation and activation. If your line is already activated, you'll be connected shortly after you sign up.
